Who Is Ciaran Hope ?
Ciarán Hope's development as a composer began in earnest when he was accepted on Scholarship by the Czech American Summer Music Institute from 1995 through 1998 to study composition at the Prague Conservatoire and Charles University in Prague (the oldest university in Europe!) with celebrated Czech composer Ladislav Kubik. With Kubik's guidance, Ciarán decided composition was to be his life choice rather than engineering which he had been studying.

From 1996-1998 Ciarán simultaneously attended Trinity College Dublin and the DIT Conservatory of Music on Scholarship where he achieved the unique distinction of studying for and receiving Masters degrees in both Audio Acoustics and Electro-Acoustic Composition. Over this period, he won the IMRO prize at the National Composer of the Future contest in Ireland and The Contemporary Music Cup at the Siemens Nixdorf Feis Ceoil (Europe’s oldest classical music contest) as well as being a finalist at the International Clarinet Associations Composition Contest and the International Song for Peace Contest.

In the fall of 1998, Ciarán decided to study film scoring in Los Angeles while contemplating further study towards a doctorate in composition. He was awarded the first ever Fulbright Scholarship in film scoring, and further scholarships from The Irish Arts Council, the Meath County Council, the Irish National Training Commission for Film and Television and from UCLA itself, enabling him to study on UCLA’s world renowned film scoring program.

In 1999 Ciarán became the first person to complete the UCLA film scoring course within a year, turned down scholarships for doctorates in composition at both NYU and Florida State University and instead chose to stay in Los Angeles and write film scores. The very first project he was fortunate to be asked to work on was Michael Mann’s THE INSIDER which he orchestrated and the resulting score received a Golden Globe Nomination.

Since finishing his year of academic training in 2000, Ciarán has stayed busy working as a composer and music producer in Los Angeles California. He has scored several independent movies including TERESA, HOLLYWOOD HORROR, GRACE, INTERROGATION, MANFAST, THE FACE OF DUMAS and has even appeared on BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER performing songs. He is currently the chief audio producer, composer and mixer for a CD series by the Imagination Gym™ Company that has been scheduled for release through SONY in Germany in 2005.
